Vancouver Vandusen Festival Of Lights 2018

I’ve forgotten to post for over a year now and am going to start posting again and revive my Vancouvertastic.com site.

At the Rainbow Roundtable I won free tickets to the Vancouver Vandusen Festival Of Lights 2018. I took my friend Dream to enjoy the event with me. Here are the Pics I took of the display. It was wondrous and beautiful and a fairly warm winter night.

Uninterrupted – A cinematic spectacle

I’ve been wanting to view this outdoor art show since I first heard about it and finally came out to view it and was I ever glad I did. It was wonderful, invigorating and beautiful. ” A Wild River”. It was shown in Coopers Park, at the Yaletown side of the Cambie bridge. Breathtaking film of the incredible journey of migrating sockeye salmon. this half hour show was projected on the underside of the bridge, along with an original soundtrack.

CBC Musical Nooners Thursday, August 24 Roy Forbes

My third visit to a CBC Musical Nooner this year, I hope to show up earlier next year and enjoy more of these free concerts. today’s visit was showcasing Roy Forbes, Singer-Songwriter who sings folk music. Roy Forbes (formerly Bim) is a singer songwriter from British Columbia, Canada His influences range from classic American genres of acoustic blues and traditional country. This classic Canadian Folk artist is not one to be missed and I have heard him several times of these many years.

Ratha Yatra 2017 Parade and Festival Second Beach Vancouver

This was the 45th year of the Parade and Festival, but my first visit. Starting out as a Parade on Beach Avenue by Sunset Beach and ending at Second Beach where the Festival was situated. Of course lots of different Cultures were represented. It was interesting to note that while at the Festival the MC on the Stage explained some of the History on the merging and blending of the Asian and East Indian Culture. Musicians, Dancers and other Performers. What was really popular was the Vegetarian Feast that was offered free to everyone at the Park. The line up was soooo long I chose not to partake but would have loved it if someone had served this Elder. There were many cooking demos, mehndi (henna) tattoos, a market bazaar, balloon artists, face painting, an amusement slide bouncer, and plenty of games that kept the kids entertained throughout the event.

Vietfest 2017

Saturday, August 19 at 12 PM – 5 PM

VietFest is a youth-led and youth-driven Vietnamese-Canadian heritage festival in the lower mainland to celebrate multiculturalism. Today’s festival was at the corner of Broadway and Fraser Street, closing off just a few streets. This festival was much smaller than most of the other cultural festivals I have attended in Vancouver this summer but just as important to share a culture with everyone. Featured cultural entertainment, photo-booth, face painting, balloon making, games, Vietnamese food vendors, not enough food for me though, this was its 3 year an will continue to grow. I’ll check it out next year for sure.
